The boys over at Lexus were dialing F for Fast as they took the wraps off their new performance division with the presentation of two high-performance show cars. The LF-A supercar was a revised and updated version of the one they showed here two years ago - more on that later - but center stage belonged to the highly anticipated IS-F super-sedan.

Just a few hours before the press conference, a few factory images were leaked (which followed an internet ad that went online a tad early), and we’re happy to report that the car is as impressive and aggressive in the flesh as it is in the photos - despite the poor lighting on stage that would make even the cast of Sesame Street look shady. The gaping air intakes up front, the side skirts cutting out from the side vents behind the front wheels and the rear bumper with trick quad tailpipes would look at home on the DTM circuit. Inside are special sports buckets in either black or contrasti-licious white and black leather, plus silver fiber-weave trim, drilled aluminum pedals and shift indicator lights on the dash that let you know this is a place of business as much as other Lexus models are luxury enclaves.

Follow the jump for more of our thoughts on the LF-A, the official press release, and our own high-resolution gallery here.

Detroit Auto Show: Lexus IS-F pics leaked!

The Lexus press conference doesn’t begin until 11:25AM EST, but a few official pics of the luxury brand’s new super sports sedan have been leaked onto the web already. The Lexus IS-F will take aim directly at high-performance sedans from BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi using a 5.0-liter V8 producing 400 hp and 350 ft-lbs. of torque as its weapon of choice. Supporting that piece of hardware will be Brembo brakes with 14.2-inch discs, 19-inch BBS wheels, and, get this, the eight-speed automatic transmission from the Lexus LS460 but with paddle shifters to swap the oh-so-many cogs at a quicker pace. The car obviously sits lower on a sport-tuned suspension, while the front end gets a decidedly more aggressive expression from its new lower front fascia that incorporates a large lower grill and intakes for what appears to be brake cooling. New side skirts also spring upward behind the front wheels to create an air vent ahead of the doors. Out back a new lower rear bumper houses those staggered double-dual exhaust outlets, as well. We’re quite impressed with the list of hardware Lexus is packing into the IS-F, especially considering they all add up to a 0-60 run in less than five seconds. Is the Lexus demographic ready, however, for a Lexus that looks like this?

There are two additional shots after the jump, including one of the interior. We will be in the front row at the official unveiling, so check back later for a huge gallery of high-res shots showing the IS-F from every angle.

The 2009 Lexus IS-F is slated to get some serious attention at SEMA, and Fox Marketing and Artisan are out to prove that show and go aren’t mutually exclusive.

The plan is to create an IS-F that has the power to match its presence, and to that end, Artisan developed a twin-turbo setup that huffs compressed oxygen into a 5.0-liter V8 equipped with JE pistons and Crower rods. With a Mishimoto radiator, an Artisan exhaust, a healthy amount of boost and a thorough tune, Artisan is estimating over 600 hp at the rear wheels.

Aesthetically, the team sought to compliment the stock IS-F’s styling, so they’ve fitted a bespoke body kit consisting of custom front and rear bumpers, and a set of side-skirts that cleanly integrate into the blistered rear fenders. iForged rollers fill the wheel wells, sized 20×9.5-inches in front and 20×11.5-inches in the rear, and wrapped in Toyo T1R tires (255/35R20 front and 305/30R20 rear). The Glasurit Sunset Orange hue is courtesy of BASF, and according to Brian Fox, they’ll be blacking out the headlamps, grille and emblems to tie everything together.

Artisan plans to have its IS-F exhaust on sale next month, and when we check out the Lexus booth this November, we’ll be able to see Fox/Artisan’s efforts in person, along with a handful of other tuned and tweaked IS-Fs.
