Click above to view HD’s 2006 patent drawings for a leaning trike

Harley-Davidson introduced its first official trike in years earlier in 2008 and now looks to flip things around a bit with a new reverse-trike that leans into corners. Rumors indicate that the huge American Motor Company will bring the corner carving trike in concept form to a motorcycle show set to take place next month in Cologne, Germany. If that debut indeed takes place, the machine is likely to be powered by the liquid-cooled Revolution V-Twin engine from the Rod series as opposed to the 45-degree air-cooled mill powering most of its bikes. We’ve known that the company has been working on this design for the past few years, filing patent drawings way back in 2006. The market is definitely ready for it now that Piaggio and Can Am have toed the waters. We look forward to seeing just how accurate these rumors prove to be next month. Thanks for the tip, Moose!

Today Ford added two new co-branded models to its F-Series Super Duty line-up, the F-450 Harley-Davidson and FX-4 Cabela edition. The 2009 HD model continues a long tradition of collaboration between the Blue Oval and builder of hogs, but is the first time this co-branding has been applied to the mightiest of F-Series pickups, the F-450. It comes with a blue-flame paint job that’s carried through into the interior on the gauges. And, of course, it wouldn’t be a Harley-Davidson edition F-Series if there weren’t a plethora of commemorative badges on the truck to remind you.

For those looking for a truck that is perhaps a bit more mild, Ford offers the Cabela edition FX-4. Cabela is an outdoor retailer that appeals to hunting and fishing types, so this co-branding deal puts Ford right in front of their faces. The Cabela edition FX-4 gets a two-tone paint scheme that can be ordered up in a number of colors, cloth seats, dark Paldeo wood trim and lockable storage units to hide your hunting rifle, fishing pole or whatever.

Ford has also announced the availability of new options for the Super Duty line like a spray-in bedliner called Tough Bed, SYNC, voice-activated nav system with SIRIUS Travel Link, and the Ford Work Solutions package.

Patent drawings have revealed that Harley-Davidson, the quintessential American Motor Company, has been working on leaning three-wheelers for the last few years. This is a concept that has already proven itself viable with products like the Piaggio MP3 series of scooters currently on the market. HD has already established itself as a player in the V-Twin trike market with its first-ever factory trike, the Tri Glide Ultra Classic. That model, new for 2009, uses the more common arrangement of two wheels in back, one in front. Rumor has it that the upcoming model from The Motor Company will reverse that with the single wheel at the rear, a setup that we prefer for stability. If Harley does introduce a reverse-trike concept, expect it to be powered by the liquid-cooled Revolution motor as opposed to the classic 45-degree air-cooled twin that the company is famous for.

Harley-Davidson says “screw fuel mileage”

Sunday, September 7th, 2008

America, please don’t buy a Harley because it gets 50 mpg. MPG describes riding like biology describes sex. History has shaped this tank, not the whims of foreign oil. American workers pour their soul into it. Lets chase sunsets whether gas is 6 bucks or 6 red cents. Let’s ride to parties like rock stars. Let’s fill the tank that gives back more than we put in. So screw it, let’s ride.

Click on the pic on the right to enlarge. Yeah, so that’s a new ad for Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Some of us here are motorcycle riders who have been riding since gas was cheap and who continue to ride now that it isn’t. We still believe in the virtues that good gas mileage brings. We also don’t recommend riding a motorcycle solely to save money on fuel, but it certainly doesn’t hurt. Although we understand what Harley is saying with this particular advertisement (while also slyly mentioning that its bikes do get good mileage), we still wonder if it’s the best message to send.

Harley Davidson in India

Saturday, April 14th, 2007

Harley Davidson would most likely have many fans in India, and most of those fans may not even have seen one. Considering the price tag that they carry, owning one in India is not going to a reality for most.

Harleys were not allowed on the Indian roads so far because they did not meet the emission standards set for the Indian bikes. But now the government has relaxed the norm specially for
