Sometimes we just need to get out of the office. Such was the case yesterday, when the bulk of editorial made a field trip to the New York International Auto Show. Sure, we don’t cover new cars, but we still have to maintain our contacts, as Fitzgerald did with his buddies from Ferrari.

And there’s the occasional old vehicle on a stand next to the new cars, such as this Volvo helping to celebrate the company’s 80th anniversary.

But the real treat for us was the Heritage and Horsepower exhibit, a special display of several cars from the LeMay Museum. Above, a 1930 Lincoln Model L Willoughby limousine.

and a 1931 Chrysler CG Imperial LeBaron
We then wandered downstairs for the special taxi exhibit, celebrating the taxi’s centennial in New York City, and stumbled across both Ben Merkel of Twilite Taxi and a pair of vintage Checkers:

and a 1956 Checker A8
Of course, no trip down to the city is complete without a slice of pie. And as a special treat, we had time to run over to McSorley’s.

Lentinello said he’s been drinking there for 35 years. He’s 50 now, so do the math. Fitzgerald’s father was drinking there at about the same time, but as a native Bostonian, he never had the chance until yesterday to follow in his father’s footsteps. I just enjoyed the beer.
